Japan Under-19s finish second in Sendai Cup

 

The Japan Under-19 team finished second in the Sendai Cup International Youth tournament after beating their Korean Republic counterparts 3-0 in their third and final match on Monday in Sendai.

Defenders Taisuke  Muramatsu of Honda FC and  Takashi Kanai of Yokohama F. Marinos, as well as Hiroki  Kawano of Tokyo Verdy scored a goal each.
The young Boys in Blue, preparing for this autumn’s AFC Under-19 Championship, wrapped up the annual four-nation round-robin tournament with a 1-1-1 win-draw-loss record.
Brazil battled to a 1-1 draw with France to win the competition with a 2-1-0 record. France finished third with three draws, while Korea Republic were fourth with an 0-1-2 record.
Japan started the competition with a 2-0 loss to Brazil on Thursday before battling to a 0-0 draw with France on Sunday.
Japan will take part in the AFC Under-19 Championship in Saudi Arabia from October 31 to November 14, which serves as a qualifier for next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.
