Oita fall in Emperor’s Cup fourth round
J. League Nabisco Cup holders Oita Trinita were shocked by Division Two club Sagan Tosu 2-0 in the fourth round of the Emperor’s Cup on Wednesday night.
Playing four days after winning the Nabisco Cup, Oita’s Brazilian manager Chamuska rested most of his regular players.
Tosu forward Koji Hirose put his side ahead in the 27th minute, and then doubled the score by connecting with a Yosuke Nozaki pass in the 52nd minute.
Shimizu S-Pulse, the losing finalists in the Nabisco Cup, edged JEF United Chiba 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time goal by forward Shinji Okazaki.
Gamba Osaka, who won the first leg of the AFC Champions League on Wednesday, will play their Emperor’s Cup fourth-round match against J2 side Ventforet Kofu on November 16.
