Ref Baba appointed for Women’s U-20 World Cup semifinal
Japanese referee Sachiko Baba will officiate the FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup semifinal between the United States and Germany on Thursday in Coquimbo, Chile.
Baba will team up with Australian assistant referees Allyson Flynn and Airlie Keen. Jacquie Melksham, also from Australia, will serve as the fourth official.
Baba, 34, has refereed in various matches in Asian competitions, such as the Olympic qualifiers for Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the East Asian Women’s Championship.
In the on-going FIFA tournament in Chile, her first World Cup event, Baba took care of the Mexico-Norway match on November 20 and the England-New Zealand match on November 26, both group-stage matches.
