Japan lost 1-0 to Syria in their opening match at the Under-20 Qatar International Friendly Tournament in Doha on Sunday.

The young Japanese side gave up a goal to Syria in the eighth minute.
In the other Group B match, the United Arab Emirates drew 1-1 with Serbia.
In Group A, meanwhile, hosts Qatar beat Malaysia 4-0, while Uzbekistan edged Belarus 1-0.
Japan, guided by Tsutomu Ogura, an assistant to Japan senior team coach Takeshi Okada, will play UAE on Tuesday before meeting Serbia on Thursday in their remaining group-stage matches.
The top two finishers will advance to the semifinals on January 18. The final and third-place playoff will be held on January 20.
