Japan fall to Portugal in Beach Soccer World Cup q’finals
Japan gave up a crucial winner with 52 seconds left and fell 2-1 to Portugal in the Beach Soccer World Cup quarterfinals in Dubai on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Japan saw the 2005 runners-up Portugal go ahead through Madjer nearly 17 minutes into the game.
But Japan fought hard, firing off 27 shots and equalizing in the third period through Tomoya Uehara.
But with the clock winding down, Ruy Ramos’ side gave up a free-kick and Belchior found the target with a curling shot that put an end to Japan’s hopes of reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2005.
