Former JFA and AFC Vice President Murata dies

Former JFA and AFC Vice President Tadao Murata died of lung cancer on Friday morning at a hospital in Kawasaki. He was 77.

Murata became a JFA Executive Committee member in 1967 and assumed the post of Secretary General in 1988. He moved up to Vice President in 1992 and stayed in that position until 1994. He also worked as Secretary General of Japan's 2002 World Cup bidding committee (1991-94). Murata had been operating in an advisory position for the JFA since 2000.
The native of Hyogo Prefecture also served as AFC Vice President (1990-94) and as a FIFA World Cup Committee member (1990-98).
