English refs to officiate in Japan
Two English referees, Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor, are currently in Japan on a three-week stay and will take charge of a number of games here as part of a referee exchange program between England and Japan.
Attwell, 27, has officiated in English Premier League matches since 2008 and became a FIFA referee in 2009. Taylor, 31, recently graduated to Premier League status and will take charge of Premier League matches in the upcoming season.
From Japan, referees Ryuji Sato and Minoru Tojo, who are both 33, will visit England to officiate in a number of matches.
The JFA created a similar exchange program with the Polish Football Association in 2008 and 2009 as part of their attempts to raise the standard of Japanese referees. Japanese referees officiated in various games in Poland while Polish referees worked games in Japan.
