Nadeshiko Asian Games squad announced

The Nadeshiko Japan women’s squad that will take part in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, in November was announced on Friday.

The squad features U.S.-based midfielders Homare Sawa and Aya Miyama, as well as forward Mami Yamaguchi. Sawa and Miyama played their second season in the Women’s Professional Soccer league in the United States, while Yamaguchi had her first this year.
But forwards Kozue Ando and Yuki Nagasato, who both play in the German women’s Bundesliga, were not included.
Nadeshiko coach Norio Sasaki commented, “I selected the squad around players with good experience and those whom I want to test, as we don’t have much time to prepare for the tournament.
“Since we couldn’t win the Asian Cup, we would love to win this time round.”
Japan finished third in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in May.
The squad will start training at the beginning of November in Japan before heading to China on November 8.
The group games will be staged on November 14, 16 and 18; the semifinals will be played on November 20; and the final and third-place playoff will take place on November 22.
