Nagoya Oceans finish third in Asian Futsal tourney

Japanese F. League champions Nagoya Oceans finished third in the inaugural AFC Futsal Championship on Friday in Iran, holding off Thai club Port Authority 6-5 on penalties following a 6-6 draw after extra time.

Foolad Mahan Sepahan from the host nation won the tournament with a 5-2 victory over Al-Sadd of Qatar in the final.
In the third-place playoff at Pirouzi Stadium in Esfahan, Nagoya took a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes with a brace from Rafael Sakai and a strike from Shuta Mori.
But the Japanese league champions allowed Ulid Rossanakarn to score in the 12th and 13th minutes, bringing the Thais back into game.
Kaoru Morioka made it 4-2 for the Japanese side in the 15th minute, but Port Authority cut the deficit through Ukrit Taengtung four minutes later, and Nattavut Madyalan leveled the scores at 4-4 in the 32nd minute.
During extra time, the Thais twice took the lead – with goals from goalkeeper Prakit Dankhunthod and Ukrit – but Ulid was dismissed in the 45th minute after collecting his second booking of the day.
Nagoya managed to draw level both times – through Kenichiro Kogure in the 47th minute and Teppei Maruyama’s last-minute strike, which sent the game into a shootout.
After one failure by each side in the shootout, Siriroj Panyateerawong hit the post and gave Nagoya the win.
