Women’s U-19 squad for AFC Championship named

The Japan women’s Under-19 squad was named to play in the AFC Under-19 Championship, slated for October 6-16 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which will serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

The 23-member squad includes forwards Kumi Yokoyama of Jumonji High School and Mai Kyokawa of Tokiwagi Gakuen High School, as well as defender Akane Saito of Urawa Reds Ladies Youth.
Japan, under the guidance of Hiroshi Yoshida, will play China on October 6, Korea Republic on October 8, Australia on October 10 and DPR Korea on October 13, before meeting hosts Vietnam on October 16.
The top three finishers of the biannual tournament will win a place in next year’s Women’s Under-19 World Cup.
