Rodrigo having a hard time selecting Futsal World Cup squad

While working to improve his side’s maturity ahead of next month’s FIFA Futsal World Cup, Futsal Japan coach Miguel Rodrigo on Thursday said he is having a hard time as he tries to finalize his squad for the tournament.
With the announcement of his World Cup squad scheduled for October 19, Rodrigo has held two intensive training camps since late last month. He included former Japan striker Miura Kazuyoshi, known as kazu and Nagoya Oceans player Morioka Kaoru.
“They are very good,” Rodrigo said. “The two players have good characters and are getting to fit into the group, but they need to synchronize with the rest of the group.”
Rodrigo said that Kazu has made an impact “mental-wise and motivation-wise” in addition to his attacking skills, while Morioka has finishing power and physical strength.
The Spanish coach has to cut his squad down from 16 to 14 before the World Cup in Thailand, which runs from November 1 to 18.
“It’s obviously a difficult thing to do,” he said. “I added those two players with the expectation that they could bring something we were missing. Now they have done that, I have to cut two players. That is not easy.”
At next month’s World Cup, Japan will meet Brazil, Portugal and Libya in the group stage. Before that, Japan will play Brazil on October 24 (kickoff at 7 p.m.) at National Yoyogi Gymnasium in Tokyo and Ukraine on October 27 (kickoff at 1 p.m.) at Asahikawa Taisetu Arena in Hokkaido.
